Hello,
if you are just visiting, do allow me to introduce myself. This is a old site
and if you have been here before, you will know that I am making some changes
here. Yes, I am in the midst of revamping this site, so do drop by every now and
then to see what’s happening. This page is a prelude to what’s coming up,
like pictures of my overseas trips and etc. But meanwhile I hope my
introduction will suffice for now. Read on to find out about me and what I do
for a living, as well as my likes and dislikes. |

First
off, my work - I used to work as an assistant manager in the Infrastructure
& Technology department of the Government Chief Information Office (GCIO)
at the Infocommunications Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Whew,
that was a mouthful eh? Anyways, we were previously known as both National
Computer Board and Telecommunications Authority of Singapore. We merged when
the Government believed that comms and computer had to go hand in hand in the
future of IT and that was how IDA was born. The
"drop-of-water-that-creates-ripples" logo of the now-defunct NCB is
still my favourite even though the IDA logo is vibrant and refreshing (read
“stiffy and boring”). Work was great and my colleagues are a great bunch to
be with. I learnt a great deal about info-communications technology (ICT). I
started picking up on all the abbreviations that Singaporeans are infamous
for. I played my part in making sure we, as a nation, were well prepared for
the challenges in the New Digital Economy. I never imagined I could learn so
much in such a short while. IDA was a great place to start a career but I
realised I needed to push myself further and to see if I could make a mark in
the private sector. Thus, I quit and joined Failsafe Corporation, a premier
service provider in the data centre hosting and disaster recovery arena, as a
sales manager. I will tell you more about my work at Failsafe in my next site
update, complete with pictures and details. |

I
also had the wonderful opportunity to spend an entire Fall 98 semester at the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an international exchange
student, thanks to both RMIT and SIM. I never thought I would fall in love
with the way of life in the States as much as I did. I toured Washington DC
and Atlanta during my short semestral breaks, and spent Halloween and
Thanksgiving at Chapel-Hill and New York respectively. For the benefit of
those of you out there who don't know this, Michael Jordan - No. 23 of the
Chicago Bulls - played his college basketball at UNC Chapel-Hill. I can tell
you tonnes and tonnes of stuff about my times in the US. But that won't be
such a smart idea, eh? Especially when you would keel over and fall asleep
instantly. Anyway, I might just post some photos onto this site pretty soon,
so stay tuned. I spent some of the happiest times of my life at UNC
Greensboro and I'm so darn glad I blew my entire bank account to have been
there. No regrets, honest. |

Here
you can see several logos of rugby unions around the world, like Australia,
England, France, New Zealand and Scotland. Well, I played some rugby back in
junior college and though I have not been playing since National Service, I
am still very much in love with the sport. While I had a smashing good time
watching the recently concluded Rugy World Cup 99 in Cardiff, Wales, I was
disappointed the All-Blacks failed to reach the finals. Heck, they were even
subsequently mauled by South Africa in the third-forth place playoffs.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. But, I am sure they will be back,
stronger than ever, in the next Rugby World Cup. |

Well,
I'm indulging a little here, but heck - we need to dream in order to find out
what we really want in life, agree? Here's what I call a car. It's a BMW 330Ci
or coupe. What more can I say? It's been said to be the ultimate driving
experience, and I would love to find out and concur. Anyway, back to reality.
I'm very satisfied with my car right now and I mean my car no disrespect when
I'm lusting after that gorgeous BMW. But it's that we smart humans tend to
get complacent when we become satisfied. It's almost human nature to want to
rest easy and enjoy life when we've reached the epitome of our careers or
lives. That's when we get brushed aside by some young punk with tonnes of
energy to blaze into society. So, I reckon we should be constantly aiming for
more, and not be satisfied easily. Besides, contentment and comfort breeds
complacency. What do you think? Anyhow, I am a proud owner of a VW Golf and I
do hope I will be able to lay my hands on the 330Ci really soon. |

I
graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT)
in 1998 with a Bachelor of Business degree in Business Administration
(Distinction). The degree programme was a "joint-venture" between
RMIT and the Singapore Institute of Management, very much like what many
world class universities like INSEAD, University of Chicago (GSB), Imperial
College and University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School of Business), are
doing - setting up campuses in Singapore. In actual fact, RMIT was having its
Asian campus in Singapore! I spent one month or so in Melbourne - completing
three modules - and I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of my stay
there. In a nutshell, Melbourne is a great place to live in and I will
definitely be flying "Down Under" for food and sight-seeing again
very soon. |

Lastly,
my favourite brand of apparel - Nike. Well, I'm simply crazy about that
little swoosh. I am always hunting for a Nike factory outlet whenever I am in
Australia or America. My friends and colleagues who have travelled with me
will testify to this. I don't have any specific reasons on why I'm such a
huge Nike fan. I guess it's a lot more comfortable and a lot less expensive
compared to Armani. |

Anyways,
drop me an email at [email protected]
if you would like to contact me and I will reply to your email as soon as
possible. Meanwhile I will be going to bed so that I can wake up in time to
catch my flight to Hong Kong at dawn tomorrow. Ciao! |
